Central Equipment Agency Review Committee Meeting 05/06/2024 – Will Vote On Fire Pumper Truck Acquisition, Forklift For Traffic Section, Cargo Van For Utilities Department

The Central Equipment Agency Review Committee is meeting 05/06/2024 at 3:30PM. They will be electing a Chair and a Vice Chair and then taking up three action items.

The first is a request to approve the sole source purchase of a $1.1 million Velocity PUC Pumper for the Fire Department that they will need 4 years from now. The Fire Department wants to make this purchase now to avoid “inflationary price increases that may occur later this year.” The lead time is 50-53 months (over 4 years from now) which fits into the department’s scheduled vehicle replacement program.

They want to purchase this specifically from Pierce Manufacturing to maintain standardization within the fleet of AFD vehicles and also due to the long-standing relationship AFD has had with Pierce Manufacturing which has many benefits.

The second is a request to place a Wastewater forklift into the city’s replacement fleet when it comes up for replacement so that it can be used by the Traffic Section. Having the use of a used forklift will improve the workflow of the Traffic Section.

The third is a request to upgrade a Utilities Department truck to a cargo van. They believe this change will result in many benefits including more flexibility in transporting equipment and enhanced storage and security while being cost effective.
