The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting 04/24/2024 at 5:30PM.
Outside of electing a vice chair, setting the meeting date and time, and designating a contact person, they will be voting on a number of temporary alcohol licenses.
They will also be taking up two items that have been held.
The first is the Operator/Bartender License for Miguel. This item was initially recommended for denial by the Police Department but then recommended for approval by the Safety and Licensing Committee after the committee was told it was statutorily required to approve it. It was then referred back to the committee by Alderperson Christopher Croatt who had some questions about it.
It was then held by the Safety and Licensing Committee for two weeks to give staff time to prepare updated memos explaining why Miguel met the qualifications for approval under state statute. The memo from the Police Department has now been updated to indicate that he meets the statutory requirements to be issued a bartender license.
The committee will also be voting on an alcohol license premise amendment application for OB’s Brau Haus to allow them to serve alcohol outside on the College Avenue amenity strip. This was held for two weeks at the last Safety and Licensing Committee meeting at the request of Police Chief Polly Olson who wanted to have more time to review the application.
The committee will also be voting on a contract for crossing guard services as well as automatic aid agreements between the City of Appleton Fire Department and the Kimberly Fire Department and the Grand Chute Fire Department.
Finally, as an information item, the committee will be receiving information on alcohol law violations. It looks like there have been 12 violations this month across a number of establishments. The violations range from 25 demerit points for failure to display a license all the way up to 150 demerit points for having gambling machines on premises.
