Common Council Meeting 03/06/2024 – Will Vote On Proposed Changes To Yard Waste Site Hours, Request To Upgrade Lighting At College/Walnut Intersection, Install Kayak Rental Station At Telulah Park

The Common Council is meeting 03/06/2024 at 7PM.

The agenda is not that heavy and they do not have a lot of items that would strike me as resulting in extended discussion or debate. There are a few items that seem like potential candidates for being separated out for individual votes.

  • The proposal to modify the Glendale and Whitman Yard Waste Site hours of operation. Staff proposes to eliminate Saturday, Sunday, and Monday summer service at the Whitman site and have it be open Tuesday through Friday. The Glendale site would be opened Friday through Saturday, resulting in 7 day a week availability across both of the yard waste sites. During the winter staff would like to eliminate weekend service at the Glendale site and have it open Monday through Friday.
  • The proposal to update the lighting near the intersection of Walnut Street and College Avenue. The Municipal Services Committee recommended this item for approval, but expressed some interested in similar lighting upgrades being made at other intersections with observable safety concerns.
  • The request to accept funds to install a kayak rental station at Telulah Park. The Finance Committee recommended this item for approval. If the Common Council also approves it, the city would pay an initial fee (partially covered by a donation from the Visitors and Convention Bureau) and would then enter into an agreement with the private company Rent Fund to provide kayaks for rent. The city would receive 60% of the rental fees and Rent Fund would receive 40%.
