Parks And Recreation Employee Who Oversaw Lifeguard Certification No Longer Working For City Of Appleton

Here’s a little bit of an update regarding the Parks and Recreation Department. Back in June, Parks and Recreation Director Dean Gazza was praising then new employee Olivia for the work she was doing managing the pools.

At the end of July it was discovered that not all of the lifeguards at the Appleton pools were properly certified.

Alderperson Matt Reed (District 8) provided further details to me regarding the lifeguard certification issues and confirmed to me that, while Olivia did not falsify any records (as some rumors had suggested) she had been in charge of signing off on the training certification and paying the fees to the Red Cross. She also stepped in for a trainer when she should not have and did not let the city know right away.

I noticed that Olivia was no longer listed on the staff page of the Appleton Parks and Recreation website so I reached out to the city’s HR Department which confirmed that Olivia is no longer working for the City of Appleton.
