The Municipal Services Committee is meeting 02/26/2024.
They will be receiving a 6 month report on the College Avenue Lane Reconfiguration project. This report should include information such as traffic counts, bike/pedestrian/scooter counts, crashes, vehicle speeds, roadway closures due to aggressive driving, parking meter revenue, business/community member feedback, and police/fire feedback.
They will also be voting on a request to modify the hours of operation at the city’s two yard waste sites. These proposed changes would result in 7 day a week service from April through Thanksgiving, staggered across the two yard waste site, as opposed to the Friday-Monday service that currently exists. It would also change the winter hours from Friday through Monday to Monday to Friday instead, eliminating weekend hours but increasing the number of days open from 4 to 5. This proposal sprang out of discussions regarding the recent resolution which the Common Council denied that called for eliminated the Whitman Yard Waste site.
The committee will be voting on a couple proposed changes to improve safety in the downtown area. One is to update some of the lighting near the intersection of Walnut Street and College Avenue and the other is to update the Central Business District street vendors ordinance. Staff is requesting that the ordinance be changed to require street vendors/food trucks in the Central Business District to close at 12AM rather than a 4AM. They believe this will improve safety in the downtown area.
Finally, the committee will be voting on a street occupancy permit along College Avenue for the Boldt Company as it works on the Fox Commons City Center Redevelopment project.
