Library Board Receives Building Project Update – Staff Hoping To Get Final Approval For New Bids Before Independence Day Holiday

The Library Board met 04/18/2023. They received a brief update to the Library Building Project which included a tentative timeframe for when the bids would be opened and approved by the Common Council.

I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download:

SOM is busy completing the construction documents which will then be reviewed by Boldt to make sure they are ready to be released. They expected to be able to release the documents in early May and were aiming specifically for May 8, 2023. Bids would open in early June, and then as soon as possible after they were reviewed, they would be brought to the Common Council for approval.

The Common Council normally meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month; however, the first Wednesday in July is July 5th which is the day after the 4th of July, and that meeting may be cancelled. The Library was hoping to be able to get everything in before that July 5 meeting, but their overall priority was to make sure they did it correctly instead of quickly.

They hoped to be able to get updated imagery out to the community within the next few weeks, and Library Director Colleen Rortvedt thought people would be pleased with the new images. She said that the updated designs reinforced functionality throughout the library while also prioritizing light within the building. They had also switched out some materials to ensure that they could meet the budget.
