Common Council Meeting 04/05/2023 – Will Vote On 1-Year Bird Scooter Agreement, College Avenue Lane Change

The Common Council is meeting 04/05/2023 at 7PM.

The action items are for the most part routine, but there are a couple of items of note.

The Council will be voting on a recommendation to approve a 1-year agreement with Bird Rides, Inc for an electric scooter program for 2023. During the Municipal Services Committee meeting, Alderperson Vered Meltzer (District 2) spoke against continuing the program, so I would expect that that item would be separated out to facilitate a no vote from at least Alderperson Meltzer if not other alderpersons.

The Council will also be voting on a request to approve an 18-month College Avenue lane reconfiguration pilot program. That lane reconfiguration has been discussed multiple times at the committee level and has garnered a fair amount of public feedback, so it seems unlikely that it would not be separated out for an individual vote.

Mayor Woodford will also be recognizing the poems selected for the 2023 Sidewalk Poetry Program as well as submitting committee appointments and reappointments to the Council.

There will also be a send-off for outgoing Alderperson Maiyoua Thao (District 7). All of the other alderpersons in odd numbered districts are running unopposed, so will be reelected. Alderperson Thao opted to not run for reelection and so will be stepping down from the Council after her term expires this month.
