Community And Economic Development Committee Meeting 03/22/2023 – Will Vote On Decreased Community Development Block Grant Allocations, Receive 2022 City Growth Report

The Community and Economic Development Committee is meeting 03/22/2023 at 4:30PM.

They have one action item which is to approve revised Community Development Block Grant funding for 2023-2024. The amount of money the city was award was $16,253 less than they had expected, so they need to revise the grant amounts they awarded to various entities.

As an information item, they will be receiving the 2022 Growth Report for the City of Appleton. While the City of Appleton’s net new construction was 2.89% for 2022, an increase over 1.25% in 2021, there are several areas of concern:

  • Appleton’s equalized value increased by only 12.3% as compared to an average of 13.8% statewide.
  • Appleton garnered a lower percentage of net new construction in the Fox Cities relative to the percentage of equalized value in the Fox Cities.
  • Appleton’s percentage of total Fox Cities’ equalized value has been decreasing over the last 9 years.
  • Because Appleton is a mature and developed city, it is difficult to impact net new construction through specific city action.
