Common Council Meeting 09/01/2021 – Items Of Interest Include Appointments To Redistricting Committee, Scavenging Resolution, Contract For Library Project Construction Manager

The Appleton Common Council is meeting 09/01/2021 at 7PM.

Business presented by the Mayor will include 5 proclamations and a Covid-19 report. Of particular import is the appointments he will be making to the Redistricting Committee. Per a post on Alderperson Sheri Hartzheim’s (District 13) aldermanic blog, “the committee will consist of the Council President (Matt Reed, District 8), Council Vice President (Katie Van Zeeland, District 5), and three “at large” aldermen.” I guess we’ll find out on 09/01 who those three at large alderpersons are.

As noted in past posts, one never knows exactly what the Council will separate for individuals votes, but a few items of interest include…

(1) Resolution 10-R-21 related to Solid Waste Scavenging. This resolution passed the Municipal Services Committee after being amended to allow scavenging of bulky overflow items while still restricting people from going through the garbage and recycling receptacles. I would expect this resolution to pass with broad support.

(2) A request for a 10-year long lease for the “Stairway to the Stars” sculpture in Pierce Park. Sculpture Valley is recommending that, if approved, a semi-permanent concrete foundation to accommodate the work.

(3) A request to award a contract to The Boldt Company for Construction Manager at Risk services for the library for a contract of $1,186,730 and $25,000 for reimbursable expenses for a contract totaling $1,211,730
