The Human Resources and Information Technology Committee is meeting 08/28/2024 at 6:30PM.
They have three action items.
The one I would expect to generate the most amount of discussion is the approval of the alderperson salary for 2026. I posted last week about how it appears $15,000 in salary overpayments have been made to the Common Council since 2017. The Elected Alderperson Salaries history document provided to the committee does note that the 2017 salary was incorrectly increased. The documentation in the agenda packet does not provide further information on the fact that three other increases were implemented even though they were not approved by ¾ of the Common Council as required by state statute.
They will also be voting on a table of organization change for the wastewater treatment plant. Utilities Director Chris Stempa would like to combine wastewater plant operators, solid operators, and relief operators into one operations group and would also like to change the shift schedules currently being worked. Although there are some increased costs associated with this change, there is also the possibility that these changes will reduce overtime, resulting in cost savings over time. Additionally, the increased efficiency caused by these changes may also result in cost savings.
Finally, they will be voting on a generative AI policy for the city which will outline the responsible use of AI products such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini by city staff.
Additionally, as information items, the committee will be receiving updates on multiple city policies as well as the most recent recruitment status report.
