This evening during the 02/01/2023 Common Council meeting, Mayor Woodford will present 5 mayoral proclamations.
With the first, he proclaims February 5-11, 2023 to be Burn Awareness Week in Appleton and encourages “all resident[s] to become familiar with burn prevention and take appropriate steps to protect their families from burn injuries.”
With the second, he proclaims February 4, 2023 to be Transit Equity Day in Appleton and encourages “residents to join me in using public transportation on February 3, as using the public transportation we have is the best way to support equitable access for those who need it, and to recognize that equal access to reliable, affordable, and environmentally sound public transportation plays an important part in reducing carbon emissions improving the social and economic wellbeing of all.” [The proclamation does not explain why Transit Equity Day is Saturday the 4th but everybody is encouraged to ride on public transportation on Saturday the 3rd. It also doesn’t indicate whether Valley Transit is prepared to handle a large one-day surge in ridership.]
With the third, he proclaims “February 2022” [sic] to be Black History Month in Appleton and encourages “all residents to celebrate our diverse heritage and culture, learn about our history, and continue efforts to create a community that is more just, peaceful, and prosperous for all.”
With the fourth he proclaims February 2023 to be Career and Technical Education Month in Appleton and urges “all residents to become familiar with the services and benefits offered by the career and technical education programs in our community and to support and participate in these programs to enhance individual work stills and productivity.”
With the fifth and final proclamation, he proclaims February 1-7, 2023 to be Gun Violence Survivor Week in Appleton and encourages “all residents to raise awareness about gun violence, renew our commitment to reduce gun violence, keep firearms out of the wrong hands, and encourage responsible gun ownership.”
