Coronavirus Numbers For 04/17/2022 – 04/23/2022

I have started pulling Covid numbers from the Wisconsin DHS website instead of from the City of Appleton.

Last week from 04/17/2022 through 04/23/2022, Appleton recorded 87 confirmed cases and 20 probable cases. There were no new deaths reported last week, and no deaths added to previous weeks either. The total number of deaths with/from coronavirus in Appleton since the start of the pandemic is still 158.

DHS does seem to be updating their case counts from previous days. For example, the old chart I had downloaded from DHS had a total of 16379 confirmed cases, whereas the chart from today had 16383 total confirmed cases. I have updated my graphs accordingly.

Appleton currently has a Covid-19 Community Level of “Low” as determined by the CDC’s metrics.

We’re now on our third year of Covid tracking. The current 7-day running average of confirmed and probable cases is 15.29 as compared to 6.57 on this day last year, and 1.29 the year before (there was obviously very little testing during the early days of the pandemic in 2020).

During the full 2021-22 cycle we had 63 total deaths with/from coronavirus as compared to 94 during the 2020-21 cycle. Right now, we have had 1 death since March 18, 2022, as compared to 0 deaths between March 18 and April 2 in 2021 and in 2020.

At the end of the first year cycle, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus was 1.17%. At the end of the second year cycle, the death rate was down to 0.49%. Currently, in the third year cycle from March 18 to April 23, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus is down to 0.36%.
