The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting 08/27/2025 at 5:30PM.
The agenda item I would expect to take the most committee time is the alcohol license revocation hearing for Mr. Frogs.
The alcohol license of Mr. Frogs has a bit of a history at the Safety and Licensing Committee. In July of 2024 and alcohol license application for Mr. Frogs was withdrawn by the applicant, Julia Nino Gomez, after the committee initially voted to deny the application due to her connection with drug dealers and drug dealing. A new application was then submitted, this time with a different individual, Vanessa Alvarado, listed as the applicant. This application was approved without any discussion at the 08/14/2024 committee meeting.
In September of 2024, the business started down a path of violative incidents that have now resulted in them accruing no fewer than 265 demerit points within less than a year of being initially awarded their license. Ms. Alvarado has been called before the committee twice to discuss demerit point violations and, each time, has declined to attend.
The Police Department is pointing to 10 incidents that have taken place over the last year as evidence that Mr. Frogs is a Disorderly or Riotous House and is recommending that the alcohol license formerly granted to Mr. Frogs, Vanessa Alvarado, Agent, be revoked.
In addition to the revocation hearing, the committee will also be holding alcohol license violation appearances for three businesses. Richmond Mobil, Maritime Bar, and MYMY were all recently convicted of having dispensed alcohol to minors, and each received 80 demerit points.
As an information item, the committee will be reviewing the Police Department staffing study that was conducted by Matrix Consulting Group.
