The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting 05/28/2025 at 5:30PM.
They have a number of license applications and license renewal application that they will be voting on.
Additionally, they will be voting on a special event permit for the Summer Shootout: Kickin’ for a Cure event at the USA Youth Sports Complex to be held 06/20/2025 – 06/22/2025. The application was submitted 39 days prior to the event instead of the 45 days prior required by city policy, but it sounds like there may be some extenuating circumstances that would warrant approval of the application regardless of the lateness of the filing, and City Clerk Kami Lynch indicates that city staff are prepared to provide support for the event.

Finally, they will be holding an alcohol license demerit point violation appear for Mr. Frogs which was recently convicted and received 50 demerit points for being open after hours back in March. This is on top of 80 demerit points they already had for having an underage person on the premises. So, they currently have a total of 130 demerit points on their license.

In January of this year, the owner of Mr. Frogs was asked to appear before the committee to discuss the earlier violation of having an underage person on premises, but Vanessa Alvarado, the owner, did not appear.
The alcohol license of Mr. Frogs has a bit of a history at the Safety and Licensing Committee. In July of 2024 and alcohol license application for Mr. Frogs was withdrawn by the applicant, Julia Nino Gomez, after the committee initially voted to deny the application due to her connection with drug dealers and drug dealing. A new application was then submitted, this time with a different individual, Vanessa Alvarado, listed as the applicant. This application was approved without any discussion at the 08/14/2024 committee meeting. [It looks like the new owner is running the establishment in a competent and upright manner.]
