The Appleton Area School District Board Of Education is meeting 04/14/2025. The meeting is scheduled to start in closed session at 5:30PM and will enter open session at 6PM or whenever the closed session ends, whichever is later.
During the closed session portion of the meeting they will be considering employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data.
During the open session portion of the meeting, the Board will be receiving reports on the District’s current financial outlook and on student attendance issues.
Regarding the current financial outlook, AASD is down over 1,000 students from 10 years ago but their operational costs have increased markedly. Over the past 5 years, the cost of Special Education and mental health services have increased 1,517%, software costs have increased 337%, and health insurance costs have increased 50%. It looks like AASD leadership would like to go to referendum and ask for more money.
The report on chronic absenteeism looks like it covers some of the same information that was presented to the Appleton Common Council on 03/19/2925. Essentially, chronic absenteeism rates have markedly increased since AASD’s Covid response in 2020 and they are now asking the City of Appleton to create an anti-truancy ordinance to help combat this issue.
The board will also be voting on updates to four policies pertaining to health care related services including their Emergency Nursing Services Policy, Communicable Disease Policy, Medication Administration Policy, and First Aid Policy.
