The Appleton Area School District Board of Education is meeting 02/24/2025 at 6PM.
They have a full agenda for the meeting that includes a review of middle school geography curriculum materials and a report on the District’s K-12 long-range library media plan.
They will receive a mid-year update on the 2024-2025 budget. Per the Power Point slides, the tax levy has decreased by $2.3 million and the current mill rate of $6.10 is the lowest tax rate in 40 years.

They will be voting on contract renewals for Kaleidoscope Academy and Appleton Public Montessori.
They will also be voting on updates to several policies. One of these policies is Policy 411.4 – Nondiscrimination of the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities. In response to the vacating of the 2024 Title IX regulations, the Leadership Team is requesting that the provisions in Policy 411.4 no longer be in effect and that the 2024 Title IX regulations will remain in force until further notice. The District will, however, still enforce the Student Harassment Policy and the Student Nondiscrimination policy each of which lists gender identity and gender expression as a protected class, and Superintendent Greg Hartjes has previously indicated that the District continues to follow the ruling in Whitaker v. Kenosha Unified School District which gives trans-identifying students access to restroom and changing room facilities of the opposite sex.

Additionally, they will be voting to accept the monitoring reports for Science education and Civics & Social Studies education. The District failed to make reasonable progress on its science education benchmarks and made reasonable process with noted exception on its Civics & Social Studies benchmarks.
