The Finance Committee is meeting 02/10/2025 at 5:30PM.
Back in front of the committee is the request to utilize a $134,180 grant for the purchase of an electric vehicle and charging station. This had been recommended for approval by the Finance Committee on 01/20/2025, but at the 02/05/2025 Common Council meeting, Alderperson Chad Doran (District 15) asked for it to be referred back because he had further questions about the request.

The committee will be voting on a request to approve a $79,500 contract with Conventions, Sports, and Leisure International to “perform a comprehensive review of the current operations and facility and to assist the City in writing and negotiating a new management agreement” for the expo center. The current management agreement for the Expo Center expires 12/31/2025. Back in the fall of 2024, city staff requested approval to spend $985,000 in ARPA funds to install carpeting and make other miscellaneous improvements and also hire a consultant to help them develop a strategy to negotiate the development of a new management agreement.

The Police Department is seeking authorization to open a dedicated bank account to be used for cryptocurrency seizure returns. The Police Department has dealt with an influx of fraud involving Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Per the memo from the Police Department, “We are now at the stage where cases are being prosecuted and seized cryptocurrencies can be released back to the victims. In most cases the victims are unaware of what cryptocurrency is, do not have a crypto wallet, and have no means to receive their stolen assets in the form of crypto.” As a result, they would like to transfer seized cryptocurrencies into dollars and then transfer that to this new bank account so they can return money to victims.
