The non-renewal request for the Corner Pub’s alcohol license is still not resolved and will be heading back to the Safety and Licensing Committee for further discussion after it was referred back to the committee by Alderperson Chris Croatt (District 14) during the 08/07/2024 Common Council meeting.

During their 07/24/2024 meeting, the Safety and Licensing Committee voted 3-2 to recommend that deadline for getting the Corner Pub up and running so that it could maintain its license be extended from 05/30/2024 to 08/15/2024. That recommendation then came before the Common Council on 08/07/2024 for a final vote.
Kim, the owner of the Corner Pub spoke to the Common Council and said that the building would be ready for an inspection on Tuesday 08/13/2024.
Alderperson Croatt asked for the item to be referred back to the Safety and Licensing Committee for further discussion on 08/14/2024. He indicated that doing so would end up shaving two weeks off of the time that would be needed to fully resolve this item.
A final hearing before the Safety and Licensing Committee was required for this item. If the Council voted to extend the deadline for the business to reopen to 08/15/2024, that final hearing would not be able to take place until the Safety and Licensing Committee meeting on 08/28/2024 and would not come before the Council for a final vote until 09/04/2024.
On the other hand, if the item was referred back to Safety and Licensing that evening, the committee could take it up again on 08/14/2024 and it would be able to come before the Common Council for a final vote on 08/21/2024.
Because the item had already been referred back once, the Council needed to vote on the refer back request. They took a voice vote and the item was referred back; however, the vote was not unanimous. Because it was a voice vote, there was no vote total available.
