Finance Committee Meeting 07/22/2024 – Will Vote On Resolution To Require A Super Majority Of The Council To Approve Changes To The Wheel Tax

The Finance Committee is meeting 07/22/2024 at 5:30PM.

The committee will be receiving a presentation from Brad Viegut of Baird regarding the 2024 General Obligation Notes and Sewerages System Revenue Bond Sales.

The main item of interests to the public will probably be the discussion and vote on the resolution to require a super majority of the Council to approve changes to the wheel tax. This resolution comes after the recent $10 per vehicle per year fee increase to the wheel tax was approved by the Council by a simple majority of 8-7. The resolution would bring the required vote threshold to implement changes to the wheel tax in line with that required for other financial decisions in the city such as transfer of funds, and special use permits, and closer to the ¾ vote required for increases to the aldermanic salary.

The committee also has a number of other action items they will be voting on.

City staff is requesting that the committee reject the bid they received for the Mead Pool plastering project. The city had budgeted $350,000 for the project but the only bid they received was for $817,199. They plan to rebid the project with a reduction in scope.

They will be voting on a request to approve reimbursement of $6,460 to Riverside Cemetery for the maintenance of veteran graves.

There are also several other projects they will be voting on, either to award contracts, or approve change orders, or to reject bids.

As information items, they will be receiving information on a budget adjustment, some project changes orders, and the mid-year report for several departments.
