The Common Council is meeting 05/01/2024 at 7PM.
They do not have a lot of items on the agenda and most of them do not seem likely to result in must discussion.
One item that I would expect to be separated out is the Bartender/Operators license application for Miguel. This item has been in and out of the Safety and Licensing Committee a couple times over the last month as the committee worked through how much discretion they had in approving or not approving his license application. Miguel has a history of OWI offenses. The committee ended up voting 3-1 to recommend the license for approval.
I could also see the Liquor License Premise Amendment application from OB’s Brau Haus to be separated out for an individual vote. This premise amendment would allow OB’s Brau Haus to place tables outside on the amenity strip during the day. The establishment received 150 demerit points on its alcohol license last year, and the Walnut Street/State Street/500 block of College Avenue has been the location of several incidents of violence recently including a non-fatal shooting in November and a fatal shooting on Christmas Eve, so there was some concern about allowing them to expand their service area; however, the committee ended up voting 3-1 to approve the request because it involved the day-time restaurant portion of the business not the night-time bar portion of the business.
Finally, although it was not a contention item, I could see the request from Appleton Downtown Inc to place a parklet near the intersection of Washington and Appleton Street being separated out for an individual vote. Jennifer Stephany of ADI often attends the meetings that have ADI related items on them, and the Council will often separate out items when members of the public attend the meeting specifically about them.
