Board Of Education Meeting 04/22/2024 – Will Discuss Graduation Rates, Review Debt Issuance For 2022 Referendum, Accept Assistant Superintendent Harrison’s Resignation

The Appleton Area School Board of Education is meeting 04/22/2024 at 6PM.

Now that the 2024-2025 Board term is starting, they will be deciding which board members will serve as officers as well as appointing representatives for various committees and events.

The board will be approving new hires and resignations. Of note, Stephan Harrison the current Assistant Superintendent for Assessment, Curriculum, and Instruction has submitted his resignation, effective 06/28/2024.

The Board will be voting to approve the Start College New/Early College Credit Program classes for the 1st  semester of the 2024-2025 school year.

They will also be receiving a presentation on the second debt issue for the November 2022 referendum. Per the memo from Holly Burr, AASD’s Executive Director of Finance, AASD is “proposing to issue $14.8 million in debt as a second round at this time. This is considered a small issue that avoids arbitrage rules and could provide additional interest income if issued now rather than waiting until next year. A third and final issue of the remaining $25 million would be anticipated for 2025.”

Finally, the Board will be receiving a report on graduation rates and updates on Kindergarten through 5th grade English Language Arts curriculum and materials. The overall graduation rate for 2023 stood at 86.7%, very close to the 86.5% it was in 2022, and up from the 84.8% it was in 2021. It looks like rates for Black, Hispanic, and English Learner students, however, have gone down over the last three years.
