Common Council Meeting 04/03/2024 – Will Receive City Of Appleton Brand Guidelines, Say Farewell To Departing Alderpersons

The Common Council is meeting 04/03/2024 at 7PM.

Mayor Woodford will be making a number of board and commission appointments. He will also be presenting the City of Appleton brand guidelines.

The Common Council will also be saying farewell to the departing alderpersons, both Alderperson Israel Del Toro (District 4) and Joss Thyssen (District 8) opted to not seek reelection, so, at a minimum, they will be leaving the Council. Additionally, Alderperson Chris Croatt (District 14) is facing a challenger, so there is a possibility that he also would be leaving the Council.

In terms of Council business, a number of committees met last week. One never knows exactly what items will be separated out for an individual vote, but a few items generated discussion at the committee level. Those items include:

  • The request to approve the Complete Streets policy documents. This was recommended for approval by the Municipal Services Committee.
  • The request to approve the execution of Memorandums of Understanding for various projects using ARPA funding. This was recommended for approval by the Finance Committee.
  • The recommendation to deny the operator’s license application for Isaiah. The Safety and Licensing Committee voted to uphold the recommendation for denial. I would only expect this item to be separated out for an individual vote if Isaiah appears at the Common Council.
  • The operators license application for Miguel. Staff originally recommended that the application be denied, but after Miguel was able to provide documentation showing evidence of his rehabilitation the Safety and Licensing Committee voted to approve his application. As with Isaiah’s application, I would only expect this item to be separated out if Miguel appears at the Common Council meeting.

Finally, although it did not generate much discussion at the Finance Committee, I could see the Council separating out the request to approve the transfer of $2 million in ARPA funds to the Library Project simply because it would be an easy way to highlight to the community that this action has been taken.
