Safety And Licensing Committee Meeting 03/27/2024 – Will Discuss Recent Demerit Point Violation For Pillow Talk-N-Wine, Vote On Recommendations To Deny Two Bartender License Applications, Receive 2023 Annual Police Department Report

The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting this evening, 03/27/2024, at 5:30PM.

It looks like it has the potential to be a longer meeting.

They will be conducting a Demerit Point Violation Appearance by a representative from Pillow Talk-N-Wine. The establishment recently received 50 demerit points for being open after hours for an incident that happened 11/23/2023.

They will also be voting on the recommendation by the Police Department to deny two Operator/Bartender license applications.

The first one is an application from Isaiah. Per the memo from Lieutenant Goodin, Isaiah is statutorily prevented from being granted a license due to past convictions for Battery and 3rd Degree Sexual Assault. Additionally, even without those convictions, he also has several convictions for drug related offenses which, in and of themselves, would have caused the Police Department to recommend denial of the application.

The second is an application from Miguel. Per the memo from Lieutenant Goodin, Miguel has a history of driving while intoxicated. Those convictions are substantially related to the sale of alcohol and demonstrate a “pattern of poor decision-making”. Due to his history, the Police Department believes he “does not meet statutory eligibility requirements to be granted an Operator/Bartender license.”

In addition to those above items, the committee will be voting on Municipal Code revisions regarding open flame effect displays. This change would add “open flame effects” to the section of the Municipal Code that covers fireworks and pyrotechnic displays. “This change recognizes the differences between full fireworks/pyrotechnics displays and an open flame effect display.”

Finally, as an information item, the committee will be receiving the 2023 annual Police Department report.
