Resolution Introduced That Would Direct $134,000 In Efficiency And Conservation Block Grant Funds Toward Qualifying Library Project Initiative

The first resolution of 2024 was introduced at the 01/17/2024 Common Council meeting. Resolution 1-R-24 is the Resolution for Use of Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Funds and calls for $134.180 in Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds from the Department of Energy to be directed toward qualifying projects within the Appleton Public Library building project and for the savings to be applied to existing library project expenses.

These grant funds were initially accepted back in May of 2023. At the time, Alderperson Sheri Hartzheim (District 13) proposed an amendment that would have directed the funds to be used for “existing proposed energy efficient projects for the library.” That amendment failed by a vote of 5-10.

This resolution now directing these funds toward the library project was submitted by Alderpersons Katie Van Zeeland (District 5), Vered Meltzer (District 2), and Denise Fenton (District 6), all of whom voted against Alderperson Hartzheim’s proposal back in May, expressing hesitancy about locking down the funds in that manner without first reviewing what other city projects the money could be spent on.

The resolution has been referred to the Finance Committee for review.
