Common Council Meeting 01/17/2024 – Will Vote On Parking Facilities Study Resolution

The Common Council is meeting 01/17/2024 at 7PM.

There have only been a few committee meetings since the Council last met, so there are not a lot of action items on the agenda.

The Parking Facilities Study Resolution will almost certainly be separated out for an individual vote. An amended version was recommended for approval by a vote of 3-2 by the Municipal Services Committee and has generated quite a bit of discussion at the committee level.

Another item that generated a good deal of discussion at the committee level was the recommendation to deny an operators/bartender license to an applicant. By state law it appeared that the city was not allowed to grant the applicant a license, but Alderperson William Siebers (District 1) was frustrated by the city’s procedure in handling the application and did not think it was appropriate for the city to have offered the applicant the opportunity to plead his case before the committee given that by law there was no chance for the committee to approve his request. As a result, he voted against the recommendation to deny.
