Municipal Services Committee Approves Permit Extension For Perimeter Fence Around Fox Commons/City Center Development – Access To City’s Drive Up Finance Window To Be Limited Through 02/29/2024

The Municipal Services Committee met 11/20/2023. The item they spent the least amount of time discussing was the request from the Boldt Company for an extension to the existing street occupancy permit for the Fox Commons/City Center Plaza construction site perimeter fencing. The permit for the fencing had originally been scheduled to end 12/31/2023, but Boldt was now requesting that the end date be extended through 02/29/2024.

During that additional timeframe, the Oneida Street/City Center Alley would be open for access to City Hall’s finance window on the following dates:

  • January 2, 2024
  • January 3, 2024
  • January 19-February 6, 2024
  • February 19, 2024
  • February 20, 2024

Alderperson Chad Doran (District 15) asked about the reason for the request and also wanted to know if there had been any issues or concerns related to the closure of the Oneida Street/City Center Alley. He particularly wanted to know if businesses had been affected.

Director of Public Works Danielle Block responded that the Boldt Company was managing demolition operations related to the Fox Commons renovation project, but she did not have any specifics on what portion of the project was causing the need for an extension. All she knew was that the project was taking longer than anticipated.

In terms of issues related to the closure of the street, she said that Bold had been very responsive to the City’s requests to add additional signage and tweak the language on signs to make them clearer to people who were entering the City Center alley in order to make payments at the City Hall finance window. Boldt was also working well and coordinating with Merge, LLC which was building an apartment complex behind City Center. “We have a lot of contractors working in one spot, and I think the communication lines are open and it has been very helpful through this project.”

The committee voted unanimously to approve the request to extend the street occupancy permit through 02/29/2023.
