The Common Council is meeting 11/01/2023 at 7PM.
Mayor Woodford will be presenting a slate of mayoral proclamations and making one appointment to the Appleton Public Art Committee.
Of course, we don’t know what if any items will be separated out for individual votes by the Common Council, but there are a few items of interest.
The request from Appleton Downtown Inc for free ramp and meter parking on Small Business Saturday, 11/25/2023, garnered quite a bit of discussion at the most recent Municipal Services Committee meeting. The committee ended up voting to recommend that only free meter parking be provided as there were too many logistical issues related to providing free ramp parking.
Also coming from the Municipal Services Committee is a request from a property owner for a variance to install a driveway extension that does not adhere to city code. The request was denied by the committee, but if the property owner shows up to the meeting, I would expect the Council to separate it out for individual discussion.
The Safety and Licensing Committee will be holding a special meeting prior to the Council meeting to vote on an alcohol operator license application. Although the Police Department recommended denial, it looks like, per state statute, if the applicant can provide the correct paperwork documenting her rehabilitation, she should be able to qualify for a license. If she is in attendance at the Council meeting, I could see that license application request being separated out for an individual vote.
The salary for the 2025 alderperson salary was discussed by the Human Resources and Information Technology Committee which ultimately recommended that the salary remain the same with no increase.
