Mayor Woodford Gives Overview Of Budget Process To Common Council – Executive Budget Will Be Presented To Council On October 4

During the Common Council meeting 0n 07/19/2023, Mayor Woodford gave a brief overview of the budget process. They were brief, but I have prepared a complete transcript for download.

The budget development process typically kicks off in April when staff starts talking about the budget for the upcoming calendar year.

Changes for 2023 include the changes to the amount of shared revenue the city will receive now that Act 12 has been passed as well as the closing of Appleton’s Tax Incremental Financing District 6.

Budget requests and capital improvement projects were due from all city departments on July 10, and the mayor and staff members were starting to work through those. Mayor Woodford was going to be holding departmental meetings beginning the end of July and running through late August.

As they work through the summer, they will start to see what the revenue projections from the state look like and will have a better sense of what sort of adjustments they may need to make as they get close to preparing the final draft of the Executive Budget.

The Executive Budget will be given to the Common Council on October 4 at which point the Council process will get underway.

Mayor Woodford finished up by saying, “As always, please feel free to give a call to my office if you have questions about process or would like an update. That goes from members of the community too. If you have questions about our budget process, always happy to discuss those.”
