Common Council Meeting 06/21/2023 – Will Vote On Bid Packages For Library Project, Resolution To Join Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition

The Common Council is meeting 06/21/2023 at 7PM.

The items that result in the most attention and discussion will most likely be the request to approve the bid packages for the Library Project and the request to increase the contract payment to Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) by approximately $1.4 million.

Additionally, I would expect the resolution calling for the City of Appleton to join the Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition to be separated out for an individual vote. While the overall purpose of the resolution (i.e. to have the city join the WLGCC) remained unchanged, the rest of the resolution underwent some major changes, with almost all of the “whereas” statements being removed. Although Alderperson Chris Croatt (District 14) felt that these changes would result in the Common Council being able to unanimously pass the resolution, Alderperson Patrick Hayden (District 7) opposed the changes, saying that he felt they were losing a lot of the meaning behind the resolution. It remains to be seen whether the full Common Council will vote on the resolution as amended by the Parks and Recreation Committee, or if any of the alderpersons will try to add back some of the removed language.
