Board Of Education Meeting 05/22/2023 – Will Go Into Closed Session To Discuss Employee Compensation

The Appleton Area School District Board of Education is meeting 05/22/2023.

The meeting will begin at 5:15PM and will immediately go into closed session to discuss compensation for AASD employees. The open portion of the meeting will commence at 6PM or upon the end of the closed session, whichever is later.

During open session, the Board will be receiving information about State Budget.

It will also be voting on 7-12 grade STEM materials purchases and a request to transfer the AGR (Achievement Gap Reduction) contract from Columbus Elementary to Highlands Elementary.

Additionally, the Board will be reviewing the Operational Expectations pertaining to the Superintendent’s communication with the Board of Education and the District’s communication with the public.

The Superintendent’s communication with the Board is compliant with exceptions. Per the documentation attached to the agenda:

Of the 17 indicators included in the monitoring of OE 8, 16 were in compliance. The one indicator that was not in compliance is 8.11, which is shown below.

● Superintendent responds to every Board complaint that is assigned to the Superintendent with an explanation of how the situation/complaint has been addressed as documented by board review of a record of complaints, dispositions, and board communication dates kept by the Superintendent’s Office.

Every complaint that has been assigned to the Superintendent has been addressed. However, a record of dispositions has not be kept, resulting in being compliant with exception.

The District’s communication with the public is non-compliant because:

  • Visits to the district website decreased
  • The district did not send out a survey to randomly selected community members.
  • Only two district newsletters were sent to the community rather than three.
