Safety And Licensing Committee Meeting 04/26/2023 – Will Vote On License Suspension For Chadwick’s Bar, Receive Information On OB’s Brau Haus License Violation Involving Nude/Semi-Nude Entertainment

The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting 04/26/2023 at 5:30PM.

They’ll be electing a vice-chair, setting the committee meeting date and time, and designating a contact person.

Additionally, they’ll be voting on a liquor license change of agent application and a temporary alcohol license application for Art in the Park.

The item that could potentially take up the most amount of time during the meeting is the License Suspension Hearing for Chadwick’s Bar. The bar has accumulated 240 demerit points across three incidents since 07/22/2022. All of them pertained to underaged drinkers.

Readers may recall that the owners of Chadwick’s Bar came before the Safety and Licensing Committee back on 03/01/2023 to discuss the steps they had taken to identify fake IDs and not serve alcohol to underaged drinkers in the future. At the time, the committee seemed to view favorably the steps the owners had taken, but they were aware that not all of the underaged drinking cases had been resolved in court yet and the bar was likely facing additional demerits from the time prior to when they implemented the changes to identify fake IDs.

Accumulating 200 or more demerit points within a 36 month period can lead to a complete revocation of a license. It looks like Chadwick’s has entered into an agreement with the city in which the city will hold 80 demerit points in abeyance, bringing the bar’s total number of demerits down to 160, and in exchange Chadwick’s will have their license suspended for 10 days, will not contest the suspension, and will comply with all City of Appleton ordinances and laws of the State of Wisconsin. This agreement needs to be approved by the committee and the Common Council.

The committee will also receive a number of information items including upcoming special events, reports from the City Clerk, Fire Chief, and Police Chief, and a report on alcohol license violations. Apparently, OB’s Brau Haus racked up a 150 demerit point violation for having a nude/semi-nude entertainer.
