Coronavirus Numbers For 07/31/2022 – 08/06/2022

I have started pulling Covid case and death numbers from the Wisconsin DHS website instead of from the City of Appleton.

Last week from 07/31/2022 through 08/06/2022, Appleton recorded 128 confirmed cases and 16 probable cases for a total of 144. There were no new deaths recorded and the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic remains at 161.

Outagamie and Calumet counties are both in the “Low” Covid-19 Community Level as determined by the CDC’s metrics; however, Winnebago County is at the “Medium” level. That means that Appleton, which straddles those three counties, is in the “Medium” category.

Appleton recorded its first case of coronavirus on 03/18/2020, so we are now on our third year of Covid tracking. The current 7-day running average of confirmed and probable cases is 20.57 as compared to 12.14 on this day last year, and 10.57 the year before. We had 144 total cases this last week, as compared to 85 on this week last year, and 69 the year before.

During the full 2021-22 cycle we had 63 total deaths with/from coronavirus as compared to 96 during the 2020-21 cycle. Right now, we have had 2 deaths since March 18, 2022, as compared to 3 deaths between March 18 and August 06 in 2021 and 6 in 2020.

At the end of the first-year cycle, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus was 1.20%. At the end of the second-year cycle, the death rate was down to 0.49%. Currently, in the third-year cycle from March 18 to August 06, the death rate for known cases of coronavirus is down to 0.09%.

There are currently 21 WI county in the “High” level, 36 in the “Medium” level, and 15 counties in the “Low” level.

The fully vaccinated rates for the “High” counties range from 38.1% to 79.7%. The “Medium” counties range from 35.9% to 83.9%. The “Low” counties had fully vaccinated rates ranging from 44.8% to 72.9%.
