Muncheez Pizza Owner Sentenced To 6 Months In Prison For Tax Fraud; Let’s Not Forget The Time He Wrote A Character Reference Letter For A Parole-Violating Felon Who Tried To Have Sex With Two Teenage Girls

Per WBAY, Paul VanderLinden, the owner of the now closed Muncheez Pizza on College Avenue, has pleaded guilty to Filing False Individual Tax Returns and Failing to Collect, Account for, and Pay Over Payroll Taxes. He was sentenced to 6 months in prison and ordered to pay over $168,000 in restitution to the IRS.

Outside of the case against Mr. VanderLinden which has been written about by local news organizations at various points over the last year, you might remember him from the Safety and Licensing Committee meeting back on April 14, 2021 in which he provided the committee with a letter of recommendation to the committee regarding the bartender license applied for by Camilo, a felon who had been convicted on charges related to his attempts to have sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl. Camilo even had his parole revoked at one point due to violating the rules of his probation on at least 4 separate occasions. In spite of that spotty background, and potentially due to Mr. VanderLinden’s letter of recommendation, the committee was almost swayed to approve the bartender’s license and ended up deadlocking 2-2.

Unfortunately for Camilo, news of the criminal charges brought against Mr. VanderLinden broke the very day of the committee meeting, and the next time the committee took up the bartender license application they voted unanimously to deny it.
