Municipal Services Committee Meeting 04/11/2022 – Will Review 3 Soldier’s Square Design Options

The Municipal Services Committee is meeting 04/11/2022 at 4:30PM.

The business on the agenda seems pretty routine. There are a few street occupancy permits, some intergovernmental agreements with Outagamie County for reconstruction projects on JJ, E, and EE, some parking restriction changes, and a request from Creative Downtown Appleton Inc to install a parklet on the street by the Mile of Music mural like last year.

The information items look like they may be of a little more interest, they include both a review of the Crosswalk Installation Evaluation Guidance Flowchart and a review of three design options for Soldier’s Square.

Although currently a Soldier’s Square project is not included in the city’s 5-year Capital Improvement Project plan, the redesign of the square was discussed at the last Municipal Services Committee meeting. The discussion mainly revolved around whether or not the language of the resolution the Common Council had passed would permit the removal of any of the currently available parking stalls and, if yes, how many parking stalls would it allow to be impacted.

It looks like three potential options will be presented, two that do not result in any lost parking and one that results in 11 lost parking spots.
