Common Council Holding Special Session 03/17/2022 – Will Discuss And Vote On Anti-Pipeline Resolution

The Common Council is holding a special session on 03/17/2022 at 5:30PM.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and vote on Resolution 4-R-22 the Resolution on Clean Water And Treaty Rights.

This resolution was sponsored by Alderpersons Vered Meltzer (District 2), Alex Schultz (District 9), and Nate Wolff (District 12). If passed it would express opposition to Enbridge Inc’s energy pipelines 3 and 5 in Northern Wisconsin.

Alderperson Schultz and Alderperson Katie Schultz (District 5) both submitted some supplemental information to be included in the agenda packet. One of the links Alderperson Van Zeeland included was an analysis of the project which concluded that, if it went forward, it would “create more than 1,000 construction related jobs (700  of which are union construction jobs) and $135 million in economic impact to Wisconsin.”

Information provided by Alderperson Katie Van Zeeland

I reached out to all three of the sponsoring alderpersons and asked them, in light of the Russian/Ukrainian war currently taking place and the concurrent need for America to be more energy independent if now was the time for us to be weakening our energy trading options with Canada. Only Alderperson Meltzer responded.
