Safety And Licensing Committee Received Election Update From City Clerk

During the 03/23/2022 Safety and Licensing Committee meeting, Clerk Kami Lynch gave an update on the upcoming April 5, 2022 election and reviewed a number of dates…

  • Absentee ballots had to be sent by March 14th, so they hoped to receive them early the prior week, but there was always a tight turnaround between the February primary and the April election.
  • In-person absentee voting would begin March 22nd.
  • March 16th was the deadline to register to vote on the MyVote website, if you were a new registrant or if you had moved and needed to update your address. (https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/) After March 16th, a person who wanted to register to vote would need to register in-person [which can be done at City Hall through April 1st or at your polling place on election day].
  • March 31st, the Thursday before the election, was the last day to request an absentee ballot be mailed to you.

Alderperson Denise Fenton (District 6) said that she has a couple of constituents and a couple of friends express concern about the process for bringing their ballots to City Hall since there were not going to be drop boxes. She had also heard a concern expressed regarding the lack of evening and non-office hours for in-person early voting. She wondered if they were going to make any changes regarding in-person absentee voting hours.

Clerk Lynch said that they would try to put out more information regarding the return of absentee ballots, but they were still waiting for more information regarding that.

In regards to in-person absentee voting hours, she said they had offered extended hours in the past but turnout had been so low that they stopped offering that. If they received feedback and people would prefer to see some hours like that, she would definitely take that into consideration and see where they could offer extended hours; however, she noted that they had to set in-person absentee voting hours very soon.
