Mayor Woodford To Present 6 Proclamations At 10/06/2021 Common Council Meeting – Mental Health Day, Coming Out Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, White Cane Awareness Day, Fire Prevention Week, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Mayor Woodford will be presenting 6 mayoral proclamations at the 10/06/2021 Common Council meeting.

In the first, Mayor Woodford proclaims October 10, 2021 to be Mental Health Day in Appleton and reminds “residents of available community resources to help take care of their own mental health and provide support to others.”

In the second he proclaims October 11, 2021 to be Coming Out Day in Appleton and urges “all citizens to honor, celebrate, and promote equal rights to all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”

In the third he proclaims October 11 to also be Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Appleton and urges “our citizens to celebrate and value the Indigenous Peoples of Appleton, participate in the annual celebrations and activities, encourage the teaching of their history, encourage businesses, organizations, and public institutions to recognize this day, and promote the well-being of Appleton’s Indigenous community.”

Although October 11, 2021 is also Columbus Day in addition to being Coming Out Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day, it appears that Mayor Woodford has opted not to recognize that via mayoral proclamation.

He uses the fourth to proclaim October 15, 2021 to be White Cane Awareness Day and reminds “residents to recognize the white cane as a tool of independence for blind pedestrians in our community.”

With the fifth he proclaims October 3-9, 2021 to be Fire Prevention Week in Appleton and urges “all the residents to ‘Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety’ for Fire Prevention Week 2021, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of the Appleton Fire Department.”

With the sixth and final he proclaims October 2021 to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Appleton and encourages “our residents to participate in activities that mourn those who have died as a result of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, and connect those who work to end violence.”
