Appleton Redevelopment Authority Exhibition Center Advisory Committee Meeting 09/07/2021 – Items Of Interest Include Sale Of Paper Valley Hotel To Hilton, Visitor Spending Dropped To 2011 Levels

The Appleton Redevelopment Authority Exhibition Center Advisory Committee is meeting 09/07/2021 at 1pm.

There are no action items on the agenda, but there are several information items.

The Red Lion Paper Valley Hotel will soon become the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel. Linda Garvey will be giving a presentation on this change as well as updating the committee on hotel bookings and feedback received from people who have used the Expo Center.

They’ll also be listening to a presentation on tourism in general and specific to the Fox Cities and the COVID-19 economic impact. Per the slides in the presentation, visitor spending has plummeted and Covid-19 wiped out a decade of growth.

They will also be reviewing debt service and room tax projections. Per the report, “Based on the above assumptions, room taxes provided through 2023, and beyond (assuming room tax collections eventually return to pre-pandemic levels), will be sufficient to meet future debt service obligations.” They do not state how soon room tax collections need to return to pre-pandemic levels in order for this to be true.
