Mayor Woodford To Present 6 Proclamations At The 05/19/2021 Common Council Meeting

This evening, at the 05/19/2021 Common Council meeting, Mayor Woodford will be presenting 6 new mayoral proclamations.

The first proclaims May 15-22, 2021 to be Creative Economy Week as a way “to celebrate and promote the arts, creativity, and vitality in and for our community.”

In the second, Mayor Woodford proclaims May 16-22, 2021 to be Public Works Week and calls “upon citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the challenges involved in providing our Public Works services, and to recognize the contributions Public Works employees make every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.”

The third proclaims Friday May 14, 2021 to be Hmong American Day. The mayor invited the public “to join us in commemorating this day and formally recognizing and celebrating the history, culture, and contributions of Hmong Americans in Appleton and other cities throughout Wisconsin.

The fourth proclaims May 17, 2022 to be Neurofibromatosis Awareness Day in Appleton and encourages “all citizens to recognize neurofibromatosis and join The Littlest Tumor Foundation’s efforts to increase understanding, empower families, and support research in an effort to to change the future of this serious condition.” (You can view The Littlest Tumor’s website here: https://littlesttumor.org/)

In the fifth, Mayor Woodford declares May 28, 2021 to be American Legion Poppy Day and calls “upon all citizens to join in the observance through the wearing of poppies.”

The final proclamation is the one in which the mayor urged people to follow the CDC’s updated masking guidelines, reminded residents that local businesses are within their right to continue requiring masks and that some places may have local or federal guidelines they must adhere to, asked people to get vaccinated, and encouraged community members “to treat one another with dignity, respect, and kindness, recognizing that the pandemic and its associated hardships have affected each person differently.”
