Alderperson Joe Martin Gives 02/03/2021 Invocation – “We Are Given An Opportunity…To Reflect, To Learn, To Celebrate, and To Recommit To A Consciousness In America That Embraces All Lives And Being Equal Regardless Of Race”

On 02/03/2021 Alderperson Joe Martin (District 4) gave the invocation before the Common Council meeting.

Mayor Woodford: Tonight’s invocation will be delivered by Alderperson Martin.

Alderperson Joe Martin: Thank you, Mayor. This year marks the 45th year that the America has designated February Black History Month. This past year we’ve lost some giants. We lost, recently, Cicely Tyson and Hammerin’ Hank Aaron to just name a couple. Also we remember George Floyd. We are given an opportunity, and it’s very powerful, to reflect, to learn, to celebrate, and to recommit to a consciousness in America that embraces all lives and being equal regardless of race. This year on this date in 1920, the Negro Baseball League was born–a simple game, a bat, and a ball, and people getting together. Thank you.
