Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht gave a Covid update at the 11/04 Common Council meeting.
Before handing things off to him, Mayor Woodford mentioned that Kurt was recognized with the Distinguished Service To Public Health Award from the Wisconsin Public Health Association. This was given in recognition of his entire body of work over the course of his career, not specifically for his response during the pandemic.
After that introduction, Health Officer Eggebrecht gave a brief Covid update. Case numbers have come down slightly over the last two weeks, but they are still high. Our burden as of 11/04/2020 is 1049 which is still well above the “very high” level. Our burden is still one of the highest in the state and country, but he is encouraged by the fact that we’re seeing a little bit of a change. He gave credit for the change to the community. He stated that the only thing that’s influencing the numbers is our behavior such as wearing masks and social distancing. He believes that people are making a difference through their actions and he finds that very encouraging.
The Appleton North testing site is going very well. It went up October 15. In October they provided 3,851 tests. Thus far in November they’ve already provided 1,248 (by my calculation, that works out to a little more than 300 tests per day). Around 5,100 people have taken advantage of the facility.
With the help of Dean Gazza, they’ve been able to implement environmental changes at the site to make things more comfortable for the national guard members as the weather gets cooler.
