Municipal Services Committee Approves Street Occupancy Permit For “Avenue Of Ice”

During the 01/24/2022 Municipal Services Committee meeting, the committee voted to approve Appleton Downtown Inc.’s application for a street occupancy permit to place ice carvings throughout the downtown the weekend of February 18, 2022 for “Avenue of Ice”.

ADI Executive Director Jennifer Stephany told the committee that they received a tremendous response to the 2021 “Avenue of Ice” event. ADI thought last year had been a special year to provide the community something that they could go out as families and explore.

In 2021, they had 15 sculptures. This year they plan to have over 30. Per Jennifer, the River Heath area plans to host their own display, so between those and the sculptures on College Avenue there would be around 26 pieces total.

She thanked the Department of Public Works for their help in making this happen and said the event mean a tremendous amount to Downtown and to the community.

Alderperson Brad Firkus (District 3) remarked that he was looking forward to seeing the sculptures and that he enjoyed seeing the pieces last year.

No one else on the committee had any comments and the item was approved 5-0.
