The Board of Zoning Appeals is meeting 01/17/2022 at 7PM. They will be taking up two variance requests from one applicant.
St. Bernadette Parish at 2331 E. Lourdes Dr. houses Iris Place, The Richardson School, and the Thompson Center on Lourdes. They already have 2 signs installed which is the maximum the municipal code allows for a property with two frontages. They, however, want to install a third sign which would show where the various services are located.
If I understand the application correctly, they also want that sign to be 5 feet high by 8 feet wide and set back only 6 feet from the sidewalk. The municipal code, however, requires signed that are over 3 feet tall to be setback at least 15 feet from the property line.
The staff analysis report indicates that St. Bernadette appears to have met the hardship criteria because of the large size of the lot and the wall signs on the building cannot be seen from the street. I’m not sure, however, if that hardship criteria applies to both variances of only the one asking for 3rd sign.
