Municipal Services Committee Meeting 12/06/2021 – Will Vote On Food Truck Regulations And 2022 DPW Fee Schedule

The Municipal Services Committee is meeting 12/06/2021.

During their previous committee meeting, they held the design hearing for the large street reconstruction project in downtown Appleton near the YMCA. During this upcoming meeting, they will be voting on whether or not to approve that project.

The committee will also be voting on proposed changes to Municipal Code Section 9 related to food trucks in the special business district. The item had initially been recommended for approval by the committee but at the 11/17/2021 Common Council meeting had been referred back to the committee by Alderperson Denise Fenton (District 6). The committee then voted to hold it until the 12/06 meeting so as to give staff more time to conduct research.

The initial proposal called for increasing the number of food truck licenses from 4 to 8 and also eliminated the requirement that no food truck conduct business within 50 feet of the main entrance of any business selling the same or similar products. The agenda packet for the meeting does not include any memo indicating what if any changes to the initial proposal will be considered by the committee.

The committee will be voting on a request to approve the Department of Public Works 2022 Fee Schedule. This fee schedule would increase the fee for curbside removal of non-compliant item from $75 to $250 and creates a fee of $500 for stolen construction signs. It also appears to remove the option for curbside pickup of appliances and noncompliant electronics as well as eliminate the option to pay a fee to have curbside pickup of move-in/out overflow.

The committee will also be voting on codifying several policy changes that have previously been approved by the Common Council related to solid waste and recycling, brush collection, and leaf collection.
