Municipal Services Committee Meeting 07/26/2021 – Will Discuss And Vote On Proposed Pole Building Ban And Updates To City’s Electrical Code

The Municipal Services Committee is meeting 07/26/2021 at 4:30PM.

They will be discussing and voting on a couple of returning items. The proposal to ban pole buildings in Appleton had been referred back by Alderperson Chad Doran (District 15) who said there were some other questions and information he thought would be good for the committee to discuss before the item was brought back to the Council.

The item regarding updates to the city’s electrical code that would clarify that only licensed electricians were allowed to install electrical service was referred back by Alderperson Alex Schultz (District 9) who was concerned that the proposed language would prevent homeowners from installing even small scale personal solar or wind units that they probably would be able to install themselves.

The agenda also includes but is not limited to…

  • A request from AT&T for street occupancy permits to install cabinets on three separate terraces
  • A request from Ruby’s Pantry to close a portion of Ida Street next to First English Lutheran Church on the first Tuesday of every month from 2pm to 7pm. The pantry will be opening a pop-up distribution site there. The street is in between the church and the parking lot, and the closure would facilitate traffic flow during food distribution times.
  • Proposed parking restrictions related to two enhanced pedestrian crossings
  • A request from The Building For Kids to install stickers and spray paint on the sidewalk to show a safe route to the museum

The one information item for the meeting is the Department of Public Works’ Mid-Year Performance Report.
