Ed Ruffolo Spends $8,000 Pursuing School Board Position After Claiming He Would Not Actively Campaign

The Ed Ruffolo saga continues to be bizarre. Not only has he done an about face and started actively campaigning after he told the public he would not, but he has spent over $8,000 of his own money on his campaign, which seems like a surprisingly large amount to spend in pursuit of an unpaid position on the local school board. It certainly dwarfs the approximately $2,000 that Sheri Hartzheim and Amber McGinley have each spent on their campaigns. (I’m still waiting to get Kay Eggert’s campaign finance reports so I can’t speak to how his expenditures compare to hers.)

What is also interesting is that, while Hartzheim and McGinley both have received donations from multiple local community members, Ed Ruffolo appears to have paid for his campaign entirely out of his own pocket. Although he told the Post Crescent that many in the community encouraged him to present his ideas as a candidate, it seems that none of those people were willing to donate to his campaign.

We’ll see on April 6 if this was money well spent.
