The Safety and Licensing Committee met 08/27/2025. They had three alcohol license demerit point violation appearances on the agenda. Richmond Mobil, the Maritime Bar, and MyMy were each convicted of dispensing alcohol to minors, and each received 80 demerit points. Each of them had no other demerit point violations or any accrued demerits beyond the 80 points for the dispensing alcohol to minors violation.
Representatives from Richmond Mobil and Maritime appeared and spoke to the committee. A representative from MyMy did not attend the meeting.
I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download:
RICHMOND MOBIL – The representative from Richmond Mobil did not explain the situation surrounding the violation, but he did tell the committee that in order to prevent it from happening again they were installing an ID scanner and also setting up the point of sale system to require that the purchaser’s date of birth be manually entered. Additionally, they have implemented random compliance checks and have instituted a policy that if an employee sells alcohol to a minor their employment will be terminated.

MARITIME BAR – Maritime’s representative told the committee that the incident had occurred during one of the March Madness weekends. The bar had been busier than they had anticipated. The bartender responsible for the violation had 10-12 years of experience but missed a kid that came in and thought the minor was part of a larger group that was playing darts. The bartender, rather than Maritime, paid the fine associated with the violation, and she is still employed at the bar.
The bar typically only had around 15 people in it. Going forward, for things like March Madness weekends and St. Patty’s Day, when the number of patrons can be expected to by abnormally high, they were going to have door checkers. They were also sending out weekly reminders to staff to check IDs.
Alderperson Chris Croatt (District 14) asked if they had an ID scanner or were considering getting one. They do not have a scanner and had not discussed getting one. Alderperson Croatt encouraged them to explore that.

MYMY – MyMy on Ballard Road recently received a conviction for an incident on March 21 in which they sold alcohol to a minor. A letter was sent on 07/24/2025 to Pa Zao Chang, the register agent for the business’s alcohol license asking them to attend the 08/27/2025 committee meeting and speak on the violation, but nobody from the business attended the meeting.
