Finance Committee Meeting 02/05/2025 – City Staff Seeking Emergency Authorization To Replace Water Treatment Plant’s 3 Sodium Hypochlorite Tanks

The Finance Committee is holding a special meeting 02/05/2025 at 6:45PM prior to the 7PM Common Council meeting.

They will be voting on a request o approve the emergency replacement of the sodium hypochlorite (bleach) tanks at the Appleton Water Treatment Facility. The tanks were commissioned in 2001 and, at 24 years old, are 9 years past their 15 year life expectancy. All three tanks have experienced leaks in the past which were repaired. Per the memo, “[O]ne of the bulk tanks had more extensive repairs completed on it prior to failing again in early January 2025 and on January 28^th a leak was observed on a second bulk tank which has elevated the need for action.” Given the age of the tanks and the need for redundancy and backup storage capacity,  city staff is requesting authorization to engage in emergency procurement to replace the three tanks.
