Library Board Approves Donor Associated Named Spaces – Donor And Board Member Tells Personal Story Related To Dedication On Plaque

The Library Board met 01/30/2025. They had one item on the agenda which was a request to approve the Named Spaces associated with donors in the library.

The meeting lasted less than 10 minutes, and, after making one amendment to the name to be displayed in one of the study rooms, the board unanimously approved the named spaces.

I’ve prepared a transcript of the discussion for download:

Board member Brian Looker who now goes by the name Bastia is one of the donors. When filling out the paperwork regarding the naming of the study room he had donor naming rights to, he had requested that it be listed as “Chosen Families”. However, there turned out to be more space on the plaque then he had realized, so he asked the board to amend that to “In Honor of Chosen Families,” and said, “It’s a great, like, personal story for me. I actually discovered my current family at the Appleton Public Library, which is, which is wonderful. I’ve got unofficial kids who are mine, and I’ve got—I live with my best friend and her wife. We share a house together, garden every summer. It’s wonderful, and I’m really happy to kind of honor that relationship and everybody’s chosen family relationships in this way.”

Thankfully, the plaques had not yet been finalized so there was still time to make this change. The board unanimously approved the amendment and then unanimously approved the named spaces.
