The Safety and Licensing Committee is meeting 10/23/2024 at 5:30PM.
They will be voting on an alcohol license application for Delaire’s. This application was recommended for approval with no discussion by the Safety and Licensing Committee during its 10/09/2024. It was then referred back to the committee by Alderperson Brad Firkus (District 3) during the 10/16/2024 Common Council meeting. No indication was given as to why it was referred back.
The committee will also be voting on a proposed Special Event Policy. This new policy would create one application deadline for all events regardless of size as well as have a uniform $75 event application fee. It would also move the city toward recouping some of the costs they spend in providing services for special events. Currently, the city does not recoup any costs for services rendered, but under the new policy they would seek reimbursement of 25% of their costs which is well below the 100% of the costs that some other communities seek. For large events such as Octoberfest and Mile of Music, the policy allows the city to negotiate directly with the organizer on services that will be provided and determine a reimbursement rate on a case by case basis.
This item was discussed during the 10/09/2024 committee meeting during which organizers of larger events asked some questions and expressed some concerns about how the policy might effect them. The item was eventually held, to be taken up again at the 10/23/2024 meeting.
As information items, the committee will be reviewing the 2025 budgets for the Police Department, the Fire Department, and Legal and Administrative Services.
Additionally, they will be reviewing the request to hire a consultant to complete an organizational and workload study for the Appleton Police Department at the cost of $69,000. This item will be voted on as an action item by the Human Resources and Information Technology Committee.
